CLSC's Teaching Program

Besides being the pioneer in teaching Philippine languages to missionaries, religious workers, business executives, foreign embassy personnel, researchers, scholars, artists and housewives, CLSC has been most effective in developing the English proficiency skills of Overseas Filipino Workers.

CLSC’s Program

Ever mindful of its mission and goals, CLSC has adopted a program which facilitates the teaching and learning of second languages.

Features of the Program

  • Placement Test - We assess the learning needs of our students and tailor-fit the instruction to those needs.
  • Students learn the grammar found in textbooks, as well as the language spoken on the street.
  • Periodical proficiency checks - The student is expected to be conversant in the language at the end of a certain sequence.
  • Quality teachers who are experienced in second-language teaching.
  • A friendly atmosphere that makes language learning fun and enjoyable, and at the same time, professional.
  • Spiritual growth of students and teachers alike.

-Sr. Mary John Paul & Sr. Mary Flora, Nuns from Burma (Myanmar) Working with Radio Veritas Asia

“Got a  good foundation in Tagalog which made subsequent   progress much easier… Happy moments of fellowship… We were  two Catholic priests (Irish & American) and two Japanese Methodists in our class.  What enjoyment we had as we struggled with the     complexities of the language with full  encouragement from our teachers,  learned much about Filipino life and  culture.  In fact, it    strengthened my conviction that language is an expression  of culture.  My knowledge of Tagalog has opened so many doors for me. Lahat ng ito ay nagsimula sa CLSC.”

-Fr.John O’Mahony, SVD

“We have very, very  fond  memories  of our classes in CLSC and do  miss  the  fun  and laughter we had with our fellow students… This fun was precious to us because we had only just arrived in the Philippines and had left our families and friends behind.  We   joyously learned your language and made friends in CLSC both of which were great gifts to us.  Thank you for the opportunity and  the  always well-meaning, supportive and motivating teachers.”

-Annika, Winni & Joachim Welp, Service Overseas

“CLSC has greatly helped us learn Tagalog and be able to work effectively here in Samar.”

 -Paul & Eunice Won, SICAP

“Sa CLSC maraming sari-saring gawain hindi lamang pag-aaral ng Tagalog.  Tulad ng pagpunta sa Lucban, Quezon.  Ito’y hinding hindi ko makakalimutan sa CLSC.  Pumunta kami doon kasama ang mga guro at ibang estudyante para makita naming ang magagandang “rice decorations”  (kipping).  Nag-enjoy kaming lahat kasi nakapagsanay kami ng Tagalog at natuto pa ng ibang kaugalian.”

-CORA DEL ROSARIO, Guro

“Before I came to your country, I was afraid to speak English. When I arrived, I stayed with some Korean friends.  They told me about CLSC. I like CLSC because the teachers are very helpful.”

-DEANA ROLDAN, Guro

"Nine years ago, before coming to the Philippines as a missionary, I went to London for a few months to study English.  A few weeks after my arrival in the country I enrolled at CLSC.  I found the school’s facilities a bit poor but is its staff friendly and welcoming.  Most of the teachers were at the same time professionally prepared and warming caring people.  That experience helped me a lot not only to polish my English and learn a bit of Tagalog but to get an initial grasp of the Filipino culture as well."

 -Fr. CARLO BITTANTE, FDCC

"We made history during 1961-62, bringing into the world a way to help missionaries get in touch with the Filipino world!   It seems that God’s hand has been behind the developments of CLSC for more than three decades! I’d like to see it hit 50!"
